The Big Sing August 31st
This was a coming together of three of Lester's four choirs, Raise Your Voices, Bakewell and District Community choir, Peace Through Folk, Rycote and other local choirs, purely for the joy of singing a cappella with 150 people raising the rafters all day in Wirksworth Town Hall and we had a FABulous time! Two visiting leaders, Frances Watt and Zee Musiq brought members from their Kaleidoscope, Rough Truffles and Soul Voices choirs and we also had singers from the Ashbourne Singers and Wirksworth Community Choir. We could have taken more bookings but sadly the maximum limit of 150 for the Town Hall was reached and we regretfully had to say no more.... With a variety of styles we shared our music between choirs, singing familiar favourites and learning some new songs together. This is a sound clip of a song which epitomised the day - many had only had a few minutes to learn this but the sound is mighty... Unite - mixed choirs at The Big Sing

The first RYV concert of 2019 was on
May 4th - "Spring into Summer"
in Wirksworth Town Hall.

the programme was a celebration...
to mark the greening of the countryside, longer days and the promise of summer....
with traditional May songs, modern popular songs, folk songs and the odd classic favourite, all designed to please your ears, raise your spirits and touch your hearts... it was a sellout and we really enjoyed performing to such a lovely audience.

PAST events 2018

December 20th
RYV enjoyed the Christmas party at the Red Lion, with singsongs led by Lester and then lots of brilliant party pieces were performed by various sections and individuals, with plenty of laughs and good cheer to celebrate another fabulous year of being RYV!

December 17th
RYV joined The Nightingales, the residents choir at Waltham House, together with Wirksworth Community Choir, for the annual three choirs Christmas event and we raised the rafters yet again... always great fun and the sherry and sweetmeats were a treat too!

December 8th
RYV sang at the Wirksworth Christmas Market in the Memorial Gardens. Sadly the weather wasn't too good but the charities raised some much needed funds and as always we enjoyed a good sing of our Christmas favourites.

November 11th
RYV sang at the memorial gardens at a unique commemoration of the end of WW1.

South Pacific Private Singalong 18th June at the Northern Light Cinema
RYV enjoyed a fun evening singing along to a real classic of the movie musicals, South Pacific which is 60years old this year. Our singers sported lots of brilliant accessories to enhance our evening and get us in the mood... but not surprisingly, no-one braved a grass skirt and coconuts! See pics in our Gallery

The RYV picnic, June 7th, a private "jolly" in Stoney Wood was a great success, thanks to Rosie and her team. and all the volunteers who donated such delicious foods and raffle prizes, We also enjoyed some ever popular in-house entertainment, our " party pieces"! We know how to enjoy ourselves and the sun shone on us until the refreshing rain, well quite a deluge actually, came over at the end! See pics in our Gallery

Wirksworth Farmers Market on 2 June 2018, performing with the lovely Nightingale singers from nearby Waltham House on a lovely warm morning in the newly furbished Memorial Gardens. - see pics in our Gallery
Kongero - On April 28th we hosted a workshop and concert with Kongero, a fabulous '"Folk'appella" quartet from Sweden, which was the greatest fun, not just for RYV but also, we were delighted to welcome visitors who also love to sing, whether in other choirs or not. It was such a success we are seriously considering hosting more such events in the future...
In the evening Kongero performed a wonderful concert with their glorious pure tones and tight, intriguing harmonies. It really was a treat. You can see pics and clips in our Gallery
